John Harvey was presented with Stanley Park's Volunteer of the Year (2012) Award at the November 20 KSA dinner. John was introduced by Optimist Club member Craig Findlay who, in his role as Senior T-Ball Covenor, has come to know John quite well over the years. Craig only had a minute to summarize John's contributions and add to the highlights listed in the program:
"John has been coaching since his daughter started playing six years ago. For the past several seasons he has helped coach other teams along with friends he has made within the organization.
It is not just games that keep John busy, he is known for running several practices for each team each week working to develop the players while having lots of fun, both on and off the field. Each year there are more and more requests from parents to have their child play on one of John’s teams.
John contributes well beyond coaching; he assists at the group's registration sessions and sorts the equipment for all teams. Just last year, with the support of the Stanley Park Optimist Club, he initiated hosting monthly youth dances."
It's the 24th year of KSA's Volunteer Recognition program so John joins a long list of citizens who have dedicated a lot of time and energy into local minor sports programs like ours.
Congratulations John - and thanks to you, and all the other volunteers you represent who help each year to make our program the success - and fun - that it is!
We look forward to having your assistance for many years to come.
