Umpires, scorekeepers & supervisors

Umpires, Scorekeepers & Supervisors

Every year we hire a crew of local youth to serve as officials at our games.  It's a great opportunity for them to gain confidence, develop self-esteem, interact with younger children and earn some money while having fun. We supervise the activities to ensure it's a rewarding, pleasurable experience.  No experience is necessary but you sure gain some quickly!

We no longer accept applications for officials!

These photos are from our annual season-ending "Officials" games. Everyone won!

Games officials: We welcome applications from youth interested in helping as scorekeepers for our 3-Pitch leagues and/or as umpires or game supervisors. These positions are open to all local youth, no experience necessary; assignments (and responsibilities) will be based on interest and experience. Your work schedule will be done around your other commitments (including games if you're playing). Umpiring schedules will be available over the Internet. There will be separate training session(s) involved including one on "how to score" for those interested in scoring. New recruits may be assigned "training" positions in our Junior T-Ball league. All these positions are paid.

As these are "paid" positions, there are no "volunteer" credits. To apply for one of our umpiring positions please submit the application form. If you'd rather "volunteer" (and help coach, supervise, score Senior T-all, co-ordinate or work at the Blastball sessions) please submit a Volunteer application using the COACH REGISTRATION link on the main page.

Weekday games start at 6:30 PM so you're expected to be at the diamond by 6:15 and help get things ready for the game, e.g. help layout the bases and playing lines, check the lineups, hold a pre-game meeting, etc. You are expected to stay after the game and supervise the "handshake" and meet with the coaches, as required, to discuss any rules or game situations. Finish time is usually just after 8 PM (8:15 - 8:30 later in the season) except for Junior T-Ball games which usually end by 7:30 pm.  Any game 'issues' have to be reported without delay via the Internet.

"New" umpires are usually assigned to work Junior T-Ball games or are "paired" with a returning umpire to do Senior T-Ball - at least for the first few weeks. More experienced umpires will have assignments in our 3-Pitch leagues. (It's learn as-you-go!)

There will be several training sessions (orientation, rules, etc.) of about 2 hours which you are expected to attend (and come prepared for) in mid to late April. We supervise our games and enforce a "zero tolerance for abuse" policy so you are expected to watch for, and report, any poor sportsmanship. In addition to enforcing the rules of the game, our officials are expected to keep the game moving and ensure all the players from both teams enjoy the experience while abiding by our safety mandates.

Rules for Junior T-Ball, Senior T-Ball & 3 Pitch and Guidelines for umpires are available through the links below. Persons wishing to umpire are expected to have read the rules and have a familiarity with them before the training sessions. All participants in our program, including umpires & other officials, are expected to promote good sportsmanship and sign a contract to that effect.
